📸 Memory challenge
Do you have a photographic memory?
Memorize all the pictures while the bar runs. Then one is missing – or one has secretly changed. You have 2 lives.
How much can your brain remember?
Short-term memory is surprisingly small: most people can only hold about 4 to 7 items at once. That’s why things suddenly get hard at 9 pictures – and with 16 or 25 you need a strategy.
3 tricks to reach more levels
- Chunking: group pictures together, e.g. “three animals on top, food at the bottom”. Many single items become a few blocks.
- Make up stories: “The penguin eats cherries in a helicopter” – absurd stories stick better.
- Use places: remember where something was (corner, centre, edge). Spatial memories are especially strong.
Is photographic memory real?
A true “photo in your head” that you can recall at will is scientifically disputed. So-called eidetic memory occasionally appears in children, but hardly ever in adults. What does exist: people with brilliantly trained memory techniques – and you can practise exactly that here.
